Day
1: Zanzibar
On arrival on this tropical island you
will be greeted by Origins’ representative,
a Zanzibari historian who will accompany
you throughout your stay on this intriguing
island.
1 overnight Serena Inn
Days 2, 3: Zanzibar
In the morning we take the fascinating
Stone Town tour: from aromatic market
stalls laden with exotic and endemic
spices and lush tropical fruit, to
the site of the former slave market
razed to make way for an Anglican
Church in 1874.
We visit the old British Consulate
where Livingstone’s body lay
before he was shipped back to Britain
and we walk through the historic Stone
Town itself to Livingstone’s
house, to the 1890 House of Wonders
and ruins of 18th century Arab forts
and palaces. In the afternoon we visit
the Jozani Forest.
The next day we take advantage of
the cooler morning time for a four
hour guided Spice Tour. We start by
visiting the Mangapwani slave caves,
then onto Chuini and Kizimbani spice
farms, where we will have an opportunity
to view cardamom, cinnamon, cloves,
black pepper, nutmeg and much more.
Tropical fruits include jack fruit,
bread fruit, pineapples, bananas and
coconuts including many other rare
and useful plants such as henna.
We return to the Zanzibar town after
a brief stop at the 1850 Persian baths
which were built by Sayyid bin Sultan
(the first Sultan) for his wife Princess
Scherezade, granddaughter of Fateh
Ali, Shah of Persia.
2 overnights Serena Inn
Days 4: Depart
