Day 1 Nairobi

Guests are met on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transferred to Fairmont Norfolk Hotel – an early watering hole for pioneer settlers recently purchased and fully refurbished by an international luxury hotel group.

1 overnight Norfolk Hotel

Days 2&3 Tsavo East National Park

Fly to Tsavo East National Park where you will be met by your Origins Safaris Professional Guide and taken on a short game drive to your luxury tented camp on the banks of the seasonal Galana River. Spend the next 2 days walking and game-driving in this remote expanse of dryland savannah and bush – a haven for Elephant & Rhino and prolific birdlife from birds of prey to parrots, weavers, sunbirds and rollers. This rustic luxury camp is actively involved in supporting the Black Rhino and Hunter's Hartebeest (Hirola Antelope) conservation projects inside the National Park.

2 overnights Galdessa Camp

Days 4&5 Tsavo West National Park

Drive across to the massive adjoining National Park known as Tsavo West – spend the next two days exploring this surprisingly different landscape – much of its wildlife congregates along the banks of the Tsavo River, teeming with crocodiles & hippo and, particularly during the long dry season, the river becomes a huge draw for many herds of elephant.   You stay at an unobtrusive bush camp – well run, comfortable and airy tents and ideally located to explore the northern area of the park and neighbouring Chyulu Hills.

2 overnights Severin Camp

Days 6&7 Amboseli National Park

After a scenic drive across to Amboseli National Park you arrive at the third point of the massive Tsavo/Amboseli eco-system, dominated by up close views of snow-capped Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest free-standing mountain. Bordering Tanzania, Amboseli is one of the most scenic of Kenya's wildlife reserves. The principal attraction of this Park is its vast herds of Elephant, renowned for having the heaviest ivory in Kenya. Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Buffalo and Maasai Giraffe may all be seen in one morning's game drive as well as hosts of plains game. The park is home to the Amboseli Trust for Elephants, run by veteran conservationist and fundraiser Cynthia Moss. Your base is Tortilis Camp, a charming Italian-owned lodge, winner of the British Airways award for Ecotourism and awarded a place on the Conde Nast Travellers Gold list in 2005. The accommodation is elegantly styled and spacious and the food is delicious – authentic northern Italian dishes blended with international recipes.

2 overnights Tortilis Camp

Days 8-10 Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Mara is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown of East Africa – forever associated with vast numbers of game and the unique spectacle of its wildebeest migration unchanged for centuries. You fly to the Mara and are transferred to an extremely comfortable and well located tented camp – ideal for exploring what is undoubtedly the world's finest wildlife spectacle as the predators stalk the herds of wildebeest, zebra, hartebeest, impala, gazelle and the many other large mammals who crowd the plains. From July to October the incredible Great Migration unfolds, as over a million wildebeest join the resident herds in seach of lush grazing, streaming across from the Serengeti in Tanzania, preyed on by the big cats and crocodiles as they make the perilous river crossings.

3 overnights Mara Intrepids Camp

Days 11&12 Lake Nakuru National Park

After bidding farewell to the extravagance of the Maasai Mara you drive across the floor of the Rift Valley to one of its most famous soda lakes, home to a million flamingos: Lake Nakuru.   This beautiful lakeside park is famous for, and was created to protect, its stunning flocks of Lesser Flamingo – which literally turn its shores pink. The park spans an attractive range of wooded and bushy grassland and is a successful sanctuary for Rothschild Giraffe and Black and White Rhino.   The Big Cats are easily found here – often by looking upwards to see Lion and Leopard ensconced in the tree branches. Origins Safaris will host you in a traditional seasonal tented safari camp – an opportunity to enjoy a traditional African safari with a true element of history and adventure.

2 overnights Origins Safaris Traditional Tented Camp

Days 13&14 Laikipia Plateau & Mount Kenya

From Nakuru you ascend to the foothills of Mount Kenya, to a famous ranch and conservancy on the Laikipia Plateau. Rising above the surrounding lower country Laikipia is recognized as a gateway to the vastness of Kenya's Northern Frontier District.   Superby walking country, Laikipia is a haven for wildlife. Mount Kenya, the country's highest mountain, dominates the area and has huge cultural significance for many tribes – its soaring peaks, often snow-covered are he principal home of Mungai (God) for the Kikuyu, Meru and Kamba people. You will stay at Ol Pejeta a 90,000 acre wilderness and Rhino Sanctuary also host to Sweetwaters, Jane Goodall's original chimpanzee sanctuary on the edge of the conservancy. Your historic accommodation is Ol Pejeta House – formerly home to Adnan Khashoggi and the Roussel family – an opulent home stay redolent with history.

2 overnights Ol Pejeta Ranch House

Days 15-17 Samburu National Reserve

You drive from Laikipia into the Northern Frontier District to Samburu land home to the most northerly representatives of Kenya's tribes who speak the Maa language. The Samburu still adhere to their traditional way of life as nomadic pastoralists, co-existing with the plentiful wildlife that ranges across this arid and beautiful landscape.   Notable endemic species include Grevy's Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Kudu, Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe and Gerenuk.   Samburu is famous for its Leopard, Elephant and Crocodile population and it's not uncommon to see up to 100 species of birds in a day, including the giant Martial Eagle. Your base to explore the Reserve and neighbouring Buffalo Springs and Shaba reserves is Samburu Intrepids – a well run tented lodge with a welcome swimming pool to dust off the day after a lengthy gamedrive.

3 overnights Samburu Intrepids Camp

Days 18-20 Manda Island, Lamu, Indian Ocean

And shaking the dust of Samburu from your feet you fly to the other end of the country and a step back in time to the ancient port of Lamu. You will be met from the aircraft and transferred by boat to the luxurious and charming resort of Manda Bay. This coastal lodge is hidden away on the peaceful island of Manda, set amongst lush tropical vegetation and shaded by palms on a beautiful empty stretch of beach. For the next few days you have nothing to do except whatever takes your fancy – watersports, dhow trips, line fishing or just chilling – good food, balmy climate and simple barefoot fun.
