Days
1,2,3,4 Malindi
Fly to Moi International Airport, Mombasa
and transfer to Malindi. Our specialist
ornithologist guide will meet and brief
guests once they have checked into the
hotel. This is a perfect ‘combination
safari’ – as much or as
little bird & wildlife watching
as each client wants, with the options
of watersports, line fishing, dhow cruises,
snorkeling as well as kids club activities
at the hotel.
Malindi, on the northern Coast of Kenya,
is famous for Watamu Marine National
Park with fabulous coral reefs home
to over 140 species of hard and soft
corals, and alive with tropical fish,
a refuge for rare Sea Turtles and the
endangered Dugong.
Inland we explore the unique Arabuko
Sokoke Forest, the largest and most
intact coastal forest in East Africa,
home to over 24 rare or endemic bird,
mammal and butterfly species. For bird
enthusiasts a visit to Mida Creek Mangrove
Swamp is a must; the creek is a fascinating
breeding nursery for young coral and
rich in other marine life and attracts
many bird species. We also visit the
Sabaki Estuary and explore the mud and
sand banks, dunes and freshwater pools.
4 overnights Turtle Bay Beach
Resort Days 5,
6 Shimba Hills Forest Reserve
After an early start we drive along
the coastline via Mombasa and on to
Shimba Hills National Reserve. Here
our days are spent walking and driving
through this botanically rich coastal
rainforest.
Two of Kenya’s most beautiful
and rare orchids can be found here
as well as the large Sable Antelope
and large herds of Forest Elephant.
We visit the spectacular Sheldrick’s
Falls and the Lango Plains looking
out across the savannah to the Indian
Ocean beyond.
2 overnights Shimbatops Eco-lodge
Day 7 Mombasa:
We drive back to Mombasa, a richly
historic Coastal city and original
slaving port still an active shipping
and naval base today. As well as Fort
Jesus and other sites of historic
interest in the Old Town, beyond the
city stretch miles of white sandy
beaches with excellent activities:
watersports, crocodile farms, curio
markets. The hotel offers many watersports
and beach activities and a kids entertainment
program.
