The best naturalist guides to lead you....

We only employ those who we consider are the best naturalist guides in the region. They are all personally trained by a host of respected naturalists, in a variety of fields from nature interpretation to customer service.

All Origins Safari Guides hold a certificate in the National Museum of Kenya & Nature Kenya Fundamentals of Ornithology.  Our guides also recently completed a course with the US based National Association of Interpreters in Interpretive Guiding. All Origins Guides are full members of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA) and hold Bronze or Silver level qualifications.

Brian Finch     

Brian leads numerous bird tours in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania and is the co-author of the current Field Guide to the Birds of East Africa (Poyser), and the Field Guide to the Birds of New Guinea (Princeton).

David Kariithi

David is a particular favourite with photographers thanks to his willingness to get up in time for dawn-shoots and commitment to driving tirelessly all day in search of the perfect setting and subjects.

Edwin Selempo Lesoine

Selempo is one of Kenya’s top ornithological guides with massive experience and knowledge of bird species in the more remote areas of East Africa. Multi-talented, mild and a fascinating guide and raconteur, he is one of the few silver members of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA).

Felix Wambugu

Felix is an excellent guide with good people skills, a sense of humour and a deep knowledge of the bush, the wildlife, the culture and the different eco-systems.

Fidel Kyalo

Fidel is an extremely popular guide, much sort after by professional and amateur photographers due to his informed and sympathetic guiding skills. He is an expert natural history guide as well as an accomplished ornithologist and wildlife photographer.

Firew Ayele

Firew is one of the most knowledgeable and entertaining guides – an expert on his country and its rich history. He leads history and

culture tours, trekking, the Omo Valley and exploring the Mountain regions.

Henry Miwani

Henry is an engaging and sympathetic guide who enjoys the variety of clients that he accompanies on trips throughout Kenya. A Maasai by tribe from Kilgoris in the Rift Valley. He is a silver level member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA).

Joshua Sonkoyo

Joshua is an excellent guide with particular insight into the ways of the Maasai people. His upbringing gives him deep insight into the Maasai tribe and his knowledge and familiarity with wildlife throughout Kenya and particularly in the Mara makes him an extremely accomplished safari guide.

Lazarus Mwangi

Lazarus enjoys being out in the bush and sharing the excitement with visitors. He is a member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides.

Liech Peter Adede

Peter is one of the most sought after guides. He enjoys sharing with clients his museum-inspired feeling and understanding for the natural world beyond the limits of the Big Game of Africa. Peter has also worked at Lewa Downs, the Aberdares, Lake Nakuru National Park, Mombasa, Amboseli National Park and The Masai Mara.

Lucy Mburu

Lucy is one of the front-line team, there to meet you at the airport, accompany you on your Nairobi transfers and brief you on the safari ahead. A passionate wildlife conservationist and an active member of the 'Youth Federation for Nature Conservation'.

Mbugua Peter Muigai

Peter is an enthusiastic guide, he entertains clients with his wide-ranging interests and anecdotes. As well as Professional Safari Guiding with Origins the Vice-President of the US based non-profit "Makenna Foundation" which funds the education of underprivileged children across Kenya.

Rosemary Njoroge

Rosemary is the first of many friendly faces you will meet in Kenya. She meets our clients at the airport, accompanies them to their hotel and assists with the check-in process.

Stanley Kariithi

Stanley is one of Origins most sought after guides. He enjoys meeting visitors and sharing stories of his upbringing, culture and typical family life in Kenya.

Steve Turner

Steve is CEO and Managing Director of Origins Safaris (formerly East African Ornithological Safaris). He took over the family business from his parents Margaret and Don Turner in the 1980’s and has used his passion for adventure and the wild to market specialist safari itineraries in East and Central Africa to fellow photographers, adventurers, culture heritage aficianados and wildlife enthusiasts from all over the world.

Willis Okech

Willis attended the Outward Bound Mountain School and ascended Mount Kilimanjaro's highest peak, Uhuru. He is a member of the National Museum Bird Committee and the Ornithology Rarities Committee of East Africa.

Zachary Methu

Zachary joined Origins Safaris in 2005 as an expert in ornithology and an accomplished all-round driver-guide. He is a Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA) silver member.
