Day
1 Lake Turkana
It’s a beautiful 120 minute flight
north across the expanse of Kenya from
Nairobi to Lake Turkana.
We land on the lake shore beach where
we enjoy a delicious bush brunch and
an opportunity to explore the Loyangalani
Settlement. Strong winds blow constantly,
temperatures soar well above 100F,
and movements in the earth's surface
are continually throwing up exposed
sedimentary layers, many of which
have preserved pre-historic fossils
in a remarkably good state.
1 overnight Oasis Lodge
or
1 overnight Houseboat ‘Lokel’
(a basic but comfortable place to
relax for intrepid travelers and enthusiastic
anglers)
Days 2, 3 & 4 Lake Turkana
Lake Turkana, or the ‘Jade Sea’
as it is known, is an Anglers Paradise:
48 Species of fish are found in the
lake of which a wide variety can be
caught, Tilapia, Catfish, Tiger fish.
Puffer fish and of course the King
of Africa’s fresh water fish
"The Nile Perch". Whether
or not a keen Angler, once you have
caught your first "Nile Perch"
the fishing bug will have surely caught
you.
The fish sustain an incredible Crocodile
population of about 12,000 reptiles,
the last and largest great population
of saurians in the world who have
remained largely unchanged for 130
million years - many exceeding lengths
of 16 foot or more.
2 overnights Oasis Lodge
or
overnights Houseboat ‘Lokel’
Options for non fishing spouses abound
- either visit the Cradle of Mankind
at Koobi Fora or the incredible kaleidoscope
of cultures that cross at Loyangalani.
Day 4: Depart
You return by air to Nairobi or on
to Nanyuki to continue on with your
safari.
