Day
1 - Antananarivo
On arrival in Anatananarivo in the early
morning you will be met by our Agent,
and transferred tothe Hotel for breakfast
and have the rest of the morning at
leisure. After lunch we visit Tsarasaotra
for a look at our first endemic birds
and keep an eye out for the world’s
biggest Chameleon: Oustalet.
1 overnight, Hotel Colbert
Days 2,3,4 – Akarafantsika
Reserve
After an early breakfast at the hotel,
we depart for the airport, to catch
a flight to Mahajanga, west coast.
Here it is very hot, with some humidity
in the coastal regions but dry and
arid at no great distance inland from
the town. We will have lunch then
drive to Ankarafantsika Reserve, where
we camp for three nights and spend
our days searching for rare birds
and reptiles and watching the captivating
antics of the many varieties of Lemur
found in this species-rich reserve.
3 overnights Les Jardins de
Matsitso.
Day 5: Antananarivo
We shall return to Mahajanga for our
flight back to Antananarivo.
1 overnight, Hotel Colbert.
Days 6,7: Berenty Park
This morning we fly to Fort Dauphin
on the south of the island, and transfer
to Berenty for two nights. Here amidst
the Ring-tailed and Brown Lemurs,
and the stunning white Verreaux's
Siffakas are our cottages. After an
early al-fresco breakfast, we set
off on our morning walk.
Around the cottages can be found
the attractive day gecko, Phelsuma
leiogaster and we may stumble onto
the Madagascan Boa on our walks. The
numerous butterflies include the Colotis
amatus and Manahari and Belenois grandidieri,
and the colourful red Acraea damni.
2 overnights Berenty Lodge
Day 8: Fort Dauphin ,
We leave for Fort Dauphin
1 overnight Hotel Gina.
Days 9,10,11: Ifaty
Flight to Tulear. On arrival in Tulear
we shall transfer to Ifaty to spend
2 days exploring the incredible fauna
of the equally incredible spiny forest.
Each day we have our breakfast early,
then depart by vehicle to the Spiny
Forest, for which this corner of Madagascar
is so well known.
There are opportunities for snorkeling
on the coral reef, for those who do
not wish to spend all their time in
the spiny forest.
On our last day, after a fruitful
morning, we return to the Lakana Vezo
for lunch and in the afternoon have
a look at an area very close to there,
which may host the rare endemic, Madagascar
Plover.
3 overnights Lakano Vezo Hotel
Day 12: Antananarivo
From Ifaty we return by air to Antananarivo
1 overnight Hotel Colbert
Days 13,14, Perinet.
Morning drive to Perinet to the famous
Indri Reserve of Analamazaotra. Arriving
towards lunch, we shall explore the
local area in the afternoon, and also
venture out spotlighting at night.
Each day early breakfasts precede
our departure for the Reserve. Whilst
the lake trail is flat, there are
one or two trails on hills, which
are equally worth investigation. After
rain terrestrial leeches can be seen
on the trails, the walking is quite
easy either being a gentle slope,
or flat and where there is a climb,
steps have been carved into the forest.
2 overnights Vakona Lodge,
Day 15: Depart
From Perinet we return to Antananarivo,
arriving in time for dinner before
the transfer to the airport for the
final departure.
