Day
1 Arusha:
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International
Airport, Arusha, visitors are greeted
and transferred to the hotel by their
Origins' Guide.
1 overnight DikDik Hotel
Days
2-4 Serengeti Plains:
In the early morning, after breakfast
and a full briefing on the safari
ahead, we fly 60 minutes across the
panoramic Serengeti Plains, a harsh,
pristine wilderness known for its
Big Cats and vast herds of plains
game to Seronera in the heart of the
Serengeti.
We
stay in a classic safari camp, reminiscent
of the Hemingway and Finch Hatton
safaris of old.
3 overnights Classic Private
Mobile Tented Camp
Days
5,6 Olduvai Gorge & Ngorongoro
Crater:
After an early breakfast we drive
to the Olduvai Gorge, the Cradle of
Mankind: one of the world's most important
prehistoric archaeological sites.
We then continue to Ngorongoro to
spend our days exploring this unique
ecosystem protected by the extinct
volcano walls spanning 102 miles of
savannah, lakes and marshes. The crater
floor is home to the greatest concentration
of resident large mammals in the whole
of Africa.
2 overnights Ngorongoro Serena Lodge
Day
7 Lake Manyara:
W e drive for 2-3 hours to reach the
shores of Lake Manyara, a photogenic
soda lake and National Park famous
for tree-climbing Lions, Elephant,
Hippo, herds of Cape Buffalo and over
380 bird species.
1 overnight Lake Manyara Serena
Days 8,9 Amboseli National Park:
After an early breakfast we drive
to Arusha and onto to the border town
of Namanga. Here we cross into Kenya
and drive the short distance across
the dry lake bed of Amboseli National
Park, home to over 1000 elephants,
plains game and abundant birdlife.
This vast tract of land spreads out
as far as the eye can see at the foot
of snow-capped Kilimanjaro: the world's
highest freestanding mountain.
2 overnights Tortilis Camp. Days 10,11 Nakuru:
Our private charter flight takes us
across the escarpments of the Great
Rift Valley, passing lakes Elementaita,
Naivasha and Nakuru. Of the world
population of 5 million flamingos,
3 million thrive on these Rift Valley
soda lakes (and up to 1 million on
Lake Nakuru alone). We spend our days
exploring Lake Nakuru National Park
& Rhino Sanctuary (black &
white Rhino); also home to Rothschild's
giraffe (rarely seen elsewhere), Zebra,
Buffalo, Eland, Waterbuck as well
as Lion & Leopard.
2 overnights Lake Nakuru Lodge Day 12 Mount Kenya: After breakfast we leave Nakuru and in a 2-3 hour drive we ascend the slopes of Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa. As the air freshens a completely different eco-system emerges around us with lush bamboo forest leading into montane forest. At 11,000 feet the forest gives way to alpine moorlands with giant lobelia and other endemic alpine flora. Spend the afternoon enjoying the facilities of the club. 1 overnight Mount Kenya Safari Club Days 13,14 Samburu Reserve: We drive for 2-3 hours down the slopes of Mount Kenya, descending into the hot dry heat of the arid Samburu Reserve in the Northern Frontier District. Camels, cattle and Samburu herdsmen pass us as we drive into their tribal lands. This harsh, incredibly photogenic region is home to rare and endemic species: Grevy's Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Yellow Baboon, Guenther's Dik-Dik and Reticulated Giraffe. We spend the next two days exploring this 'photographers heaven': fantastic scenery, abundant wildlife and strong cultural experience. 2 overnights Samburu Intrepids Camp Day 15 Nairobi: We catch the 1100 scheduled flight, arriving 1215 in Nairobi and transferring to the Norfolk Hotel where a day room is booked. After dinner we transfer to the airport for the international flight departure. Farewell Dinner at Carnivore Restaurant MAASAI MARA EXTENSION Days 15,16,17 Maasai Mara: After breakfast we fly from Samburu to the Maasai Mara departing at 0900, arriving in the Mara at 1100. Just the drive from the airstrip is a gamedrive in itself: our camp nestles on the shady banks of the Mara River, overlooking the Hippos and crocodiles along the banks below. The next two days are spent exploring Africa's foremost wilderness extravaganza. The backdrop of golden plains, studded with solitary twisted thorn trees, grazed by enormous herds of plains game, stalked by their predators is simply incredible. It's way better than the Discovery Channel, because you are part of the spectacle… 3 overnights Governors Camp
Day 18 Nairobi:
After a last morning game drive we
catch the 1100 flight back to Nairobi,
arriving at 1215 to spend the day
at the Norfolk Hotel, shopping, resting
and planning our return trip!
