Days 5 & 6: Lake Turkana
Today is an incredible drive across
some of East Africa's most dramatic
scenery: the Chalbi Desert. You arrive
late afternoon at the Oasis Lodge,
a mid-range but comfortable base
(with a much-needed swimming pool
and bar) ideal for exploring this
incredibly remote region of Kenya
and a welcome refuge from the desert
heat.
Amidst a line of natural springs,
the frontier town of Loyangalani
is a melting pot of characters and
tribes, as featured in John Le Carre's
famous novel & film 'The Constant
Gardener'. The town neatly divides
into tribal zones: the Samburu, Turkana,
Rendille have each made one distinct
area of this remote 'frontier' town
their own. We spend our days exploring
this fascinating landscape, interfacing
with the proud El Molo, Turkana and
other tribes people.
2 overnights Oasis Lodge
Day 7 & 8: Mount Nyiru
Desert Rose, a beautiful eco-lodge
carved into the side of Mount
Nyiru, the sacred Mountain of the

area is the homeland for the Samburu & Turkana
tribes people.
After an early breakfast you will
drive through the South Horr valley
to Desert Rose at Mt Nyiru arriving
in the late afternoon.
On your second day here you will
be taken to the edge of the Rift
to observe and immerse yourself in
the rugged lifestyle of the fierce
Turkana Tribe
